If you want to just stay at home, making a homemade pumpkin spice latte is a delicious way to enjoy this classic fall beverage without having to go to a coffee shop. Here’s a simple recipe for you to try:
Ingredients:
For the Pumpkin Spice Mix:
2 tablespoons canned pumpkin puree
1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (or a mixture of cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and allspice)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons sugar (adjust to taste)
A pinch of salt
For the Latte:
1 cup milk (any type you prefer: whole, 2%, skim, almond, soy, etc.)
1 to 2 shots of espresso or 1/2 to 1 cup of strong brewed coffee
Whipped cream (optional)
Additional cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Pumpkin Spice Mix:
In a small saucepan over low heat, combine the canned pumpkin puree, pumpkin pie spice, vanilla extract, sugar, and a pinch of salt.
Stir and cook for about 2-3 minutes until the mixture is heated and well combined. This helps to intensify the flavors. Be careful not to burn it.
Remove the mixture from the heat and let it cool slightly.
2. Brew Your Coffee:
While the pumpkin spice mix is cooling, brew your espresso or strong coffee.
3. Combine and Froth:
In a separate saucepan, heat the milk over low-medium heat. Do not let it boil; just heat it until it’s hot but not scalding.
If you have a milk frother, use it to froth the milk until it’s creamy and foamy. If not, you can simply whisk it vigorously or use an immersion blender to froth it.
Combine the coffee/espresso and the pumpkin spice mix in your coffee mug.
Pour the hot, frothed milk over the coffee and pumpkin mixture. Stir well to combine.
4. Garnish:
Top your homemade pumpkin spice latte with whipped cream if desired.
You can sprinkle a bit more pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, or nutmeg on top for extra flavor and presentation.
Sip your homemade pumpkin spice latte slowly and savor the warm, comforting flavors of fall!
